![]() They have a very nice garden area a little off to the side but actually still very close to the visitor center, and apparently it's a private or reservation only area. However, I give it 3 stars because of something I witnessed. It's definitely not a tourist destination, it's just not big or grand enough for you to go out of your way to get here unless you happen to be staying in Flushing for your stay. I would say you should go if you live in the area and want to see some nice flowers because they can't do anything about planes. That alone would make it 4 stars, but that is not the fault of the garden. The planes are so close you think they will crash into the buildings nearby. The garden itself is very quiet but expect every 2 minutes to hear a very loud jet engine and see very close by the planes coming in to land. The problem is it is located directly in the flight path of LaGuardia airport so it is very loud there. Plus you can walk around the gigantic meadow, which is more plain but still nice. I've been to larger more prominent botanical gardens that are of less quality. The garden area can be covered in about 15-20 minutes, and it is kept up better than you would expect. It's very easy to get to and on Saturdays it's FREE!!!!!! If anyone gets the chance to go please do. It even beats the Bronx and that's saying a lot. ![]() We left and decided to go to the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens instead which I have to say blew us away!!!! By far the best one yet. The festival was a farce with armature designers. We got there at 10:00am and finished walking the whole park in under 30 min. It could not have been more disappointing to say the least. I'm still trying to figure out how they have the audacity to call it a Botanical Garden, when it looks more like someone's overgrown backyard. It was a sloppy cluster of very badly maintained plants n trees. The park is the size of an average back yard. Actually $4 was more than what it was worth. Well u know that saying "you get what u pay for"? That stood true in every sense of the word. Was very surprised to hear that admission to the park was only $4. In all the years I have lived in Queens, I have never been there so I was very excited to go. I went many times as a child but haven't been there recently so can't review it, but you may want to work it into your day as well.So Mom & I were invited to the Queens Botanical Garden this weekend for a flower festival. The New York Hall of Science, an interactive science museum, is also located in the park. While you are in the park, take a short walk across the highway bridge to see the Unisphere. If i did not have the membership I would have been happy to pay $8 for this zoo. There is no restaurant but there are vending machines. There is also a small playground, and a petting zoo located across from the main entrance that you can get into with your ticket. The aviary is very cool - it's built in an old geodesic dome from the worlds fair. Animals included a lynx, brown bears, bald eagle, sea lions, a duck pond, bison, and an aviary. It's small, but we were impressed with the habitats and landscaping. The zoo is laid out in a "loop" so there's no need for maps or much signage to navigate - just follow it around. The zoo admission (for non-members) is $8. On the way you'll pass a tiny carnival area with a carousel - we made a stop for my toddler to ride the carousel for $3. Parking is free! It's a short walk from the parking lot to the zoo entrance. The zoo is located in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, probably best known as the site of the 1964 worlds fair (you may have seen it in the movie Men in Black). Since it was free for us to go, we made a day trip to visit friends in Queens and check it out. I live in Connecticut now, and it was only when I bought a membership to the Bronx Zoo that I found out the Queens Zoo existed (they share the same membership, as well as a few other NYC locations). I lived on Long Island for the first 18 years of my life and never knew this place existed.
